Winter Storm Warning: Heavy Snow, Gusty Winds Expected Through Monday

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the Little Belt and Highwood Mountains, Snowy and Judith Mountains, and Elkhorn and Boulder Mountains, effective immediately until 6:00 AM MDT on Monday, October 12th. The National Weather Service in Great Falls, MT, advises residents to prepare for heavy, wet snow and strong winds.

Total snow accumulations are expected to be between 8 and 16 inches, with the highest amounts on northern slopes between 4500 and 6500 feet. Winds are forecast to gust as high as 45 mph. These conditions will make travel very difficult, and the combination of wet, heavy snow and gusty winds could lead to downed tree branches and isolated power outages.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. For the latest road conditions, call 511.
