Winter Storm Warning Issued: Heavy Snow and Winds Expected

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from this evening until Monday morning for mountain ranges in our area, bringing heavy snow, high winds, and potential travel disruptions.

Staff Writer

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Great Falls, MT, effective from 6 PM this evening, October 10th, until 6 AM MDT on Monday, October 12th. Residents in the Little Belt and Highwood Mountains, Snowy and Judith Mountains, and Elkhorn and Boulder Mountains should prepare for severe winter weather conditions.

Heavy snow is expected, with total accumulations between 6 and 14 inches. Winds are anticipated to gust as high as 40 mph. These conditions could make travel very difficult. The combination of gusty winds and wet, heavy snow may lead to downed tree branches and isolated power outages. Snowfall on roadways, particularly at lower elevations, will be most significant between the evening and late morning hours.

If you must travel, carry an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle for emergencies. For the latest road conditions, call 511. This warning was issued at 12:32 AM MDT on October 10th, 2026.
