A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Little Belt and Highwood Mountains, Snowy and Judith Mountains, and Elkhorn and Boulder Mountains until Monday, October 12, at 6:00 AM MDT, with heavy, wet snow and gusty winds expected.
Residents in the Little Belt and Highwood Mountains, Snowy and Judith Mountains, and Elkhorn and Boulder Mountains should prepare for a Winter Storm Warning in effect until Monday, October 12, at 6:00 AM MDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Great Falls, MT, issued the warning at 4:13 PM MDT on October 10.
Heavy, wet snow is expected, with total accumulations between 6 and 12 inches. The highest snowfall amounts are anticipated on the northern slopes between 4500 feet and 6500 feet. Gusty winds reaching up to 45 mph are also forecast. These conditions could make travel very difficult. The NWS warns that the combination of gusty winds and wet, heavy snow could bring down tree branches, leading to isolated power outages.
If travel is necessary, motorists are advised to keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in their vehicle for emergencies. For the latest road conditions, dial 511.
