TAKE COVER NOW: Extreme Wind Warning for Southwestern Walton County
An Extreme Wind Warning has been issued for Southwestern Walton County, Florida, until 8:45 PM CDT tonight, October 9, due to extreme winds from Hurricane Isaias; residents are advised to take cover immediately in an interior room away from windows.
TAKE COVER IMMEDIATELY: The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has issued an Extreme Wind Warning for Southwestern Walton County, Florida, effective until 8:45 PM CDT tonight, October 9.
This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation. At 5:44 PM CDT, NWS Doppler radar indicated extreme winds, associated with the eyewall of Hurricane Isaias, moving onshore 18 miles south of Destin, tracking north at 15 mph.
Residents in the affected area must treat these imminent extreme winds as if a tornado was approaching. Move immediately to the safest room in your shelter. The safest place during a major landfalling hurricane is a reinforced interior room away from windows. Get under a table or other sturdy furniture, and use mattresses, blankets, or pillows to cover your head and body. Remain in place throughout these life-threatening conditions.
