SOUTH WALTON, FL – October 10, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee has issued an immediate and extreme Storm Surge Warning for South Walton, effective until 10:15 AM UTC today. Residents in Santa Rosa Beach, Sandestin, and Freeport are advised to take immediate action.
Life-threatening storm surge of 2-4 feet above ground is possible, particularly around high tide. Flood preparations and any ordered evacuations should be complete. Residents must remain sheltered in a safe location and not venture outside.
Tropical storm-force winds of 35-45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected through the next few hours. The NWS indicates a potential for wind greater than 110 mph. Shelter immediately from life-threatening wind; be ready to move to the safest place inside your shelter if necessary.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with the potential for major flooding from heavy rain. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The situation is somewhat favorable for tornadoes; stay informed and move to the safest place within your shelter if a tornado warning is issued.
