High Surf Warning Issued for South Walton, Coastal Bay
A High Surf Warning is in effect for South Walton and Coastal Bay from Friday 10 AM CDT until Sunday 10 AM CDT, with dangerously large breaking waves and life-threatening rip currents expected; stay out of the water.
Residents and visitors in South Walton and Coastal Bay areas are advised to stay out of the water due to a High Surf Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This warning is in effect from Friday, October 10 at 10:00 AM CDT until Sunday, October 11 at 10:00 AM CDT.
Dangerously large breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet are expected in the surf zone. In addition to the high surf, a High Rip Current Risk is in effect through late Sunday night, posing life-threatening swimming conditions.
The NWS warns that breaking waves can sweep people off jetties and docks into dangerous seas, and significant beach erosion is expected. Rip currents can carry even strong swimmers away from shore.
For your safety, everyone should remain out of the water. Avoid jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
