Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Clanton, Prepare for Winds & Flooding
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Clanton by NWS Birmingham AL, effective October 8 at 4:07 PM CDT, with hazardous winds up to 65 mph and moderate flooding expected from early Saturday morning through Saturday afternoon.
Clanton residents are urged to finalize preparations for hazardous wind and moderate flooding as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Birmingham AL, effective October 8 at 4:07 PM CDT. The watch remains in effect until October 9 at 12:15 AM UTC.
Peak winds are forecast to be 35-45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph, expected from early Saturday morning until Saturday afternoon. Plan for equivalent tropical storm force winds and limited wind damage. Residents should complete efforts to protect property as soon as possible and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Potential impacts include damage to unanchored structures, broken tree limbs, impassable roads from debris, and scattered power outages.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Peak rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches, with locally higher amounts, are anticipated. This brings the potential for moderate flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could overflow, and small streams and ditches may swell. Floodwaters could enter some structures, and driving conditions will become hazardous with potential road and bridge closures. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
The NWS indicates that the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, and they are not expected. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
