Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Chilton County; Prepare for High Winds
Chilton County is under a Tropical Storm Warning with expected winds of 35-45 mph and gusts up to 60 mph from early Saturday morning, alongside a Flood Watch for 2-4 inches of rain, prompting calls to secure property and prepare for potential flooding.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Chilton County, including Clanton, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:17 AM CDT. Residents should prepare for tropical storm-force winds and significant flooding.
Peak wind forecasts are 35-45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph, expected from early Saturday morning until Saturday afternoon. Plan for hazardous winds and complete all property protection efforts as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous. Potential impacts include damage to porches, sheds, and mobile homes, broken tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are expected on bridges and elevated roadways.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. Moderate flooding is possible, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could overflow, and floodwaters may enter some structures. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Driving conditions will become hazardous due to flooded roads and underpasses. Tornadoes are not expected at this time.
