Clanton residents should prepare for tropical storm conditions starting early Saturday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Chilton County, effective October 8 at 10:27 PM CDT. This watch is set to expire on October 9 at 6:30 AM UTC.

Forecasts indicate peak winds of 35-45 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph, expected from early Saturday morning through Saturday morning. Residents are advised to complete all property protection efforts immediately and move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Potential impacts include damage to unanchored structures, broken tree limbs, power outages, and impassable roads due to debris.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. NWS Birmingham anticipates 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, posing a moderate flooding risk. This could lead to swollen rivers, overflowing streams, and localized inundation in low-lying areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings to avoid serious injury or loss of life. Tornadoes are not expected at this time.
