The vacant Quigley building at the Massachusetts Veterans Home at Chelsea campus, located at 100 Summit Avenue, is slated for demolition starting on or about Tuesday, April 21. The demolition is a key step in the ongoing modernization and transformation of the campus.

The demolition is expected to last between six to ten weeks, with construction activities occurring weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents and neighbors may experience increased noise, truck traffic, and general construction activity in the area during this period. Efforts will be made to minimize inconvenience and ensure the work is completed safely and efficiently.

Following the demolition, the site will be redeveloped into a new staff and visitor parking lot. Additionally, a green space and park area will be created for the enjoyment of veteran residents, their visitors, and the surrounding community. This redevelopment aims to create a safer, more accessible, and community-friendly campus.

To ensure safety, access to the rear of the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) near the loading dock and behind Saint Michael’s Chapel will be temporarily restricted. However, services at Saint Michael's Chapel will continue without interruption. Access to the SNF for authorized staff and deliveries will be rerouted through Summit Avenue using the fire lane. Visitor parking and access to the SNF are not anticipated to be affected.

During the workday, approximately 20 trucks are expected to transport construction materials, with one truck leaving the work area every 30 minutes, crossing the Keville building parking lot onto Hillside Avenue and Summit Avenue.

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Veterans Services is overseeing the project. For questions or concerns, residents can contact Construction Coordinator Patrick Kenney at [email protected] or call 617-884-5660.
