A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Chattahoochee County, including Cusseta, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA, effective Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 11:17 AM EDT. This watch indicates that tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours.

Residents should plan for hazardous winds of 39 to 57 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, and efforts to protect property should begin immediately. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous. Potential impacts include damage to unanchored structures, broken tree limbs, some impassable roads due to debris, and scattered power outages.

Moderate flooding rain is also anticipated, with 1-3 inches of rainfall and locally higher amounts possible. Emergency plans should include the potential for moderate flooding, as evacuations and rescues are possible. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.

The NWS also reports a favorable situation for tornadoes, with the potential for several, some of which may be intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. This alert expires at 7:30 PM UTC today.
