Residents and visitors along the coasts of Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, and Lee counties are advised of a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL. This alert is effective immediately, October 10 at 9:55 AM EDT, and remains in effect until Sunday evening, October 11 at 8:00 PM EDT.

Dangerous rip currents and large breaking waves are expected, posing a significant risk to swimmers. Additionally, minor coastal flooding is anticipated, which may impact lots, parks, and roads, though only isolated road closures are expected.

For those living in or traveling through Pinellas and Coastal Hillsborough Counties, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 8 AM EDT this morning, and a High Surf Risk is in effect through 8 PM EDT this evening.

Actionable Information:

  • If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed.
  • Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
  • Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
  • Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.
  • Swim near a lifeguard.
  • If caught in a rip current: relax and float, don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
