Residents in Coastal Charlotte, Coastal Lee, Inland Charlotte, and Inland Lee counties should monitor weather conditions closely as a Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL.

At 12:17 PM EDT today, October 1, NWS Doppler radar detected a line of strong thunderstorms. These storms extend from Iona to Olga, approximately 6 miles northwest of Fort Myers Beach to 9 miles northeast of Fort Myers, and are moving northwest at 30 mph. This alert is effective immediately and expires at 12:45 PM EDT today, October 1.

The primary hazard associated with these storms is wind gusts up to 50 mph, as indicated by radar. These gusty winds could potentially knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured outdoor objects. Locations impacted include, but are not limited to, Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Punta Gorda, Fort Myers Beach, North Captiva Island, Captiva, and Matlacha.

The NWS advises monitoring the weather situation closely and remaining alert for threatening weather conditions during this period.
