Rip Current Warning for Coastal Counties Through Saturday Evening

A Rip Current Statement is in effect for Coastal Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, and Lee Counties through Saturday evening, with dangerous rip currents and large breaking waves expected.

Coastal residents and visitors in Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, and Lee Counties are advised to exercise extreme caution near the water due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay Ruskin FL. Dangerous rip currents and large breaking waves are expected, posing a significant hazard to swimmers.

This Rip Current Statement is effective immediately, beginning October 9 at 11:01 PM EDT, and remains in effect through Saturday evening, October 10. A High Surf Risk is also in effect through 8 AM EDT Saturday, October 10. These conditions can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

Inexperienced swimmers are strongly advised to remain out of the water. For those entering the water, the NWS recommends swimming near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, remember to relax and float; do not swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
