Rodney Robert PettersonSeptember 21, 1959 – June 4, 2026Rodney Robert Petterson, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away far too soon on June 4, 2026, leaving behind family and friends who will forever cherish the joy, laughter, and love he brought into their lives.Born on September 21, 1959, in Aurora, Illinois, Rod graduated from East Aurora High School and remained an Aurora resident throughout his life.Rod spent his life caring for others with a devotion that came straight from the heart. He had a quick wit and a charming sense of humor that could lift anyone’s spirits, and his presence alone had a way of brightening any room he entered. Rod was an avid sports fan through and through—he loved every sport, but hockey held a special place in his heart. Though he worked as a pipefitter, Rod’s skills reached far wider; he was a genuine jack of all trades with a knack for solving any problem put in front of him and always willing to lend a hand.Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy and Robert Petterson; his son, Shawn Petterson; his grandson, Brandon Howard; his adored dog, Jaz, along with many cherished pets through the years. He is survived by a family who loved him deeply, including his treasured pet, Peanut; daughter, Misty Howard; sons, Greg Howard and Shane Petterson; treasured grandchildren, Alexis, Bailey and Emily Howard; Chelsea, Homero Jr., and Mason Ortiz; sister, Melody (Carl) Schlaack; brother, Larry (Kelly) Petterson; nieces Kim Ahlgren, Julia and Miranda (Adam) Johnson; nephew Dustin (Kyle) Schlaack; and many extended family members and even more dear friends.Though Rod’s time here was far too short, the legacy he left behind is one of kindness, laughter, loyalty, and pride. The stories he told, the things he fixed, the animals he loved, and the countless lives he touched will continue to live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Rodo! We will miss you.Family will be receiving guests on Thursday, June 11, 2026 from 10:00am until time of service at 12:00pm at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 South Broadway, Montgomery, IL 60538.
