Agustin D. “Ben” Dormitorio, M.D., age 84, a longtime resident of Naperville, Illinois, since 1986, passed away peacefully at home on June 3, 2026, with his beloved wife by his side.Ben was born on August 28, 1941, in Dumangas, Iloilo, Philippines, to Bernardo and Natividad Dormitorio. He lived a life dedicated to his family, his patients, and his profession, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew him.He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Dawn Dormitorio (née Fischer); his loving children, Thomas Dormitorio, Nicholas (Jenifer Bailey) Dormitorio, and Stefanie (Michael Kobel) Dormitorio; and his adored granddaughter, Livia Dormitorio.He is also survived by his siblings, Jenia (Tom) Tierney, Edgardo (Terry) Dormitorio, Stefa (Edmund) Sichon, Edith Dormitorio Manzano, and Samuel Dormitorio, along with many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and former patients.He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Bernardo and Natividad Dormitorio.Dr. Dormitorio was a highly respected physician whose career spanned more than five decades of service to the Chicago area. He earned his medical degree from the Cebu Institute of Medicine in the Philippines in 1965 and began practicing medicine in the United States in 1972.As both a general surgeon and family medicine physician, Dr. Dormitorio cared for generations of patients with skill, compassion, and dedication. Throughout his distinguished career, he was affiliated with several prominent Chicago-area medical institutions, including Methodist Hospital of Chicago, Thorek Memorial Hospital, and West Fullerton Medical Clinic.Known for his exceptional bedside manner, attentiveness, and commitment to patient care, Dr. Dormitorio earned the trust and gratitude of countless individuals and families. He consistently received 5-star patient ratings and was highly regarded for his thorough follow-up care, professionalism, and genuine concern for those he served. Patients often described him as compassionate, responsible, attentive, and deeply committed to their well-being.Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ben was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, cherished brother, and loyal friend. Margaret Y. Szczechula, age 56, passed away surrounded by the love and memories of those who knew her best on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.Survived by her children, Sarah (James) Burgert, and Timothy Szczechula; grandchildren, Lilah, Elaine, and Wyatt Burgert; mother and stepfather, Elizabeth (Ziggy) Sobolak; siblings, Jarek (Milka) Bojoko, Michael (Kristina) Sobolak; God mother, Anna Bukla. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends also survive.Preceded in death by her father, Richard Bojko; grandparents, Stanistawa (Joseph) Forman, Eliasz Bojko, and Stefan (Janina) FalasaMargaret was truly full of life, with the prettiest smile, an infectious laugh, and a personality that drew people to her everywhere she went. She was always ready for a good time, loved making memories with the people she cared about, and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Margaret loved spending time with her children and truly always wanted the very best for them. Her grandchildren were her entire world, and she loved them deeply, cherishing every moment spent together doing anything to make them laugh. She was also a devoted Chicago sports fan, especially when it came to the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bears. Whether cheering on her teams, spending time with loved ones, or reminiscing about cherished memories, Margaret lived with emotion, passion, and heart. She was a hardworking woman throughout her life, and in her later years found comfort in a quieter, more low-key lifestyle. Margaret adored her beloved dogs, Buddy and Milo, who meant so much to her and who preceded her in passing. She was stubborn, smart, unforgettable, and deeply loved. Margaret also shared a special bond with her late boyfriend, Damian, who passed away last year. He was not only her partner, but truly her best friend. Though her passing leaves an unimaginable emptiness, her laughter, spirit, and love will continue to live on through her family, friends, children, and especially her grandchildren. She will be missed beyond words and remembered always.Funeral services for Margaret will be held at Farkas Funeral Home, 3201 W. Jefferson St. Joliet, IL 60431 on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 7:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until time of services. As it was Margaret’s request, cremation rites will be accorded following services.

She liked to go for walks; her last walk was on the same day she passed. Maria had a bright personality which matched her appreciation for bright and stylish clothing and jewelry. She would never go anywhere without being dressed up in her best outfit, smelling like her favorite perfume and definitely not without her gold cross around her neck. She enjoyed eating out at many different restaurants where she could be pampered by being served her meals. She dined out often enough that most of the staff at the restaurants she frequented knew her by name. Maria enjoyed eating bread and also had quite a sweet tooth. Rodney Robert PettersonSeptember 21, 1959 – June 4, 2026Rodney Robert Petterson, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away far too soon on June 4, 2026, leaving behind family and friends who will forever cherish the joy, laughter, and love he brought into their lives.Born on September 21, 1959, in Aurora, Illinois, Rod graduated from East Aurora High School and remained an Aurora resident throughout his life.Rod spent his life caring for others with a devotion that came straight from the heart. He had a quick wit and a charming sense of humor that could lift anyone’s spirits, and his presence alone had a way of brightening any room he entered. Rod was an avid sports fan through and through—he loved every sport, but hockey held a special place in his heart. Though he worked as a pipefitter, Rod’s skills reached far wider; he was a genuine jack of all trades with a knack for solving any problem put in front of him and always willing to lend a hand.Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Nancy and Robert Petterson; his son, Shawn Petterson; his grandson, Brandon Howard; his adored dog, Jaz, along with many cherished pets through the years.He is survived by a family who loved him deeply, including his treasured pet, Peanut; daughter, Misty Howard; sons, Greg Howard and Shane Petterson; treasured grandchildren, Alexis, Bailey and Emily Howard; Chelsea, Homero Jr., and Mason Ortiz; sister, Melody (Carl) Schlaack; brother, Larry (Kelly) Petterson; nieces Kim Ahlgren, Julia and Miranda (Adam) Johnson; nephew Dustin (Kyle) Schlaack; and many extended family members and even more dear friends.Though Rod’s time here was far too short, the legacy he left behind is one of kindness, laughter, loyalty, and pride. Ronald Hinton, Oswego Railroad Conductor, Dies at 75

Ronald H. Hinton, 75, of Oswego, IL, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026.He was born on August 24th, 1950 in Pana, IL, the son of John and Nola (Kay) Hinton.Ronald graduated from West Aurora High School in 1968. He began his career as a conductor with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad in 1974 and spent the next 36 years working both commuter and freight lines.He married Charlene McDuffee on August 20th, 1977 in Batavia, IL. Together, they spent the next 49 years raising their family and later in life enjoyed their grandchildren.After their children were grown, they enjoyed traveling and most especially time spent in Florida the north woods of Wisconsin.Ronald enjoyed his fishing trips to the wilderness of Canada and days spent on the beaches of Florida. He was an avid music fan who greatly enjoyed live music. In his life he was able to see many legendary artists.Ronald is survived by his wife, Charlene, of 49 years; children Ronald F. (Emily) Hinton, Sarah E.H. (Thomas) Rice and Charles H. (Christina) Hinton; grandchildren, Jacob and Trevor Hinton and Olivia and Ben Hinton as well as many granddogs. Brothers, Grant (Susan) Hinton and Bill (Chris) McElhone, Extended family, Dave (Blythe) McDuffee, Sandra McDuffee, Kathleen Petersen and Marianne (Tim) Vance, several nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.He is also survived by his very special Westie companion, Willie McGregor.He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gordon McElhone, Bob Hinton and David Hinton. Hermilia was a homemaker. Her passion was working with St Nicholas Church; helping to prepare for Mass, and help the priest administer the sacraments. She is survived by 2 daughters; Teresa Hernandez and Martha and 2 sons; Jaime and Cruz. 10 grandchildren; Ivan Hernandez, Brenda Mendoza, Martha Hernandez, Lorenzo Hernandez, Danielia Mendoza, Pamela Mendoza, Katia Alvarez, Erick Alvarez, Arturo Alvarez, Jaime Hrenandez Jr, along with 5 more grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Katrina Johnson, 56, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on June 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories that will be cherished by all who knew her.Katrina was known for her infectious laughter and wonderful sense of humor. Whether at a family gathering, holiday celebration, or an ordinary afternoon spent with loved ones, she had a remarkable ability to turn any event into a party. Her joyful spirit drew people together, and her laughter became the soundtrack to many of life's most treasured moments.Family was the center of Katrina's world. She was the beloved daughter of Linda Becker and the late Joseph Becker. Katrina shared an extraordinarily close bond with her mother. Together they navigated life's joys and challenges side by side, supporting one another with unconditional love, friendship, and laughter that often brought them both to tears.She is survived by her devoted sister, Michele Fenton, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond and spoke every day. She also leaves behind her beloved and treasured brother-in-law, Douglas W. Fenton, and her cherished nephews, Nathaniel Fenton and Douglas L. Fenton, who brought immeasurable joy to her life.Katrina shared special relationships with many members of her extended family. Her Aunt June Halapir was both a trusted confidante and cherished beach companion. Her Aunt Deb Hutson, affectionately known as her "Bling Aunt," shared Katrina's love of all things that sparkled. Her Uncle Marty Bartley was a constant protector throughout her life, always offering support, guidance, and unwavering love. Katrina was deeply loved by her extended Bartley and Becker families, including her many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Becker, and her grandparents, Bill and Fostina Bartley and Catherine and Joseph N. Becker.Beyond her devotion to family, Katrina was passionate about her career and dedicated much of her professional life to helping nonprofit organizations thrive and empowering women entrepreneurs to achieve their goals. Obituary: Margaret Y. Szczechula, 56

Margaret Y. Szczechula, age 56, passed away surrounded by the love and memories of those who knew her best on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.Survived by her children, Sarah (James) Burgert, and Timothy Szczechula; grandchildren, Lilah, Elaine, and Wyatt Burgert; mother and stepfather, Elizabeth (Ziggy) Sobolak; siblings, Jarek (Milka) Bojoko, Michael (Kristina) Sobolak; God mother, Anna Bukla. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends also survive.Preceded in death by her father, Richard Bojko; grandparents, Stanistawa (Joseph) Forman, Eliasz Bojko, and Stefan (Janina) FalasaMargaret was truly full of life, with the prettiest smile, an infectious laugh, and a personality that drew people to her everywhere she went. She was always ready for a good time, loved making memories with the people she cared about, and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Margaret loved spending time with her children and truly always wanted the very best for them. Her grandchildren were her entire world, and she loved them deeply, cherishing every moment spent together doing anything to make them laugh. She was also a devoted Chicago sports fan, especially when it came to the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bears. Whether cheering on her teams, spending time with loved ones, or reminiscing about cherished memories, Margaret lived with emotion, passion, and heart. She was a hardworking woman throughout her life, and in her later years found comfort in a quieter, more low-key lifestyle. Margaret adored her beloved dogs, Buddy and Milo, who meant so much to her and who preceded her in passing. She was stubborn, smart, unforgettable, and deeply loved. Margaret also shared a special bond with her late boyfriend, Damian, who passed away last year. He was not only her partner, but truly her best friend. Though her passing leaves an unimaginable emptiness, her laughter, spirit, and love will continue to live on through her family, friends, children, and especially her grandchildren. She will be missed beyond words and remembered always.Funeral services for Margaret will be held at Farkas Funeral Home, 3201 W. Jefferson St. Joliet, IL 60431 on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 7:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until time of services. As it was Margaret’s request, cremation rites will be accorded following services.

Dorothy Anne Scheihing, Oswego resident, passes away at 81

Dorothy Anne Scheihing, age 81, a longtime resident of Oswego, IL, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026. She was born on May 23, 1945 in Harvey, IL.Dorothy is survived by her loving children, Jonelle (Frank Beltrame) Kruse, Trina (Alan) Bank, and Todd Scheihing; her adored grandchildren, Jeremy (fiancée Shannon) Bank, Taryn (Robby) Hancock, and Alina Bank; her dear nephews, Richard (Maria) Ruble and Aaron (Joanna) Glogowski and great-nieces, Joselin and Olivia.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter Scheihing; her parents, Stanley and Frances Szczelina; and her sister, Alicia MoningerDorothy worked for approximately 15 years at Bloom Trail High School, running the Computer Technology room where she enjoyed assisting young people as they explored the rapidly evolving world of technology. Her patience, encouragement, and dedication helped many students develop skills in this exciting and emerging field.After retiring, she devoted herself to caring for her beloved grandchildren. She treasured her role as their caregiver and remained a constant presence in their lives, faithfully attending school activities, sporting events, performances, and celebrations long after babysitting was no longer needed.She especially cherished her time at Woodhaven Lakes, where she created countless memories with her husband, children, and later her grandchildren. Her camper was a peaceful sanctuary—a place where she found comfort and joy, whether enjoying quiet moments alone or welcoming family and friends to gather and make lasting memories together.A devoted member of the Catholic faith, she generously volunteered her time teaching children's literacy and sharing her love of learning with others. She also enjoyed the companionship of friends through her involvement with the Red Hat Society and the 59ers.She was an animal lover throughout her life, caring for dogs, cats, and birds with great affection. Curious by nature and a lifelong learner, she embraced opportunities to expand her knowledge through classes and programs on a wide variety of subjects, including coffee, sea life, cocoa, and many other interests. John Bernard Mullane, Naperville resident, passes away at 92

John Bernard Mullane (“Bernie”), 92, of Naperville, IL passed away Friday, May 29, 2026, at Edward Hospital, Naperville, IL.John is preceded in death by his parents; Louis Cornelius Mullane and Margaret Maskill Mullane, his sister, Mary Catherine Kohl and many close, cherished family members. He kept their memories alive each day by sharing with others their stories and anecdotes.He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 69 years, Josephine Margaret Durschmid Mullane, four children; Joseph (Shannon), Theresa Cremering (Jerry), Patricia Ricchiuto (late David), Timothy (Karen), grandchildren; Amie, Elise, Tony, Josephine, Mary Jean, great grandchildren; Keane, Wade, Lauren, Blake and William Desmond.John grew up in Oak Park, an area he loved, and was a graduate of Fenwick High School Class of 1951. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and then the Reserves, serving throughout the Great Lakes region. John and Jo raised their family in Burbank and later Cicero, where they had moved to be closer to extended family. As empty nesters they moved to their “lake house” in Wauconda, a lifelong dream. There Dad loved to be in the water and played endlessly with the kids. John and Jo “retired” to Naperville to enjoy condo living and were members of the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic church. Last summer, he and “his bride” moved into a retirement community to settle in for their last chapter. No matter where they lived, John and Jo weathered the good and bad, hand in hand, making the best of things while enjoying laughter and time spent with family and friends.Anyone who knew John knew he always had a smile and a story. He could talk to anyone and loved making new friends. Nothing was dearer to his heart than family and he enjoyed sharing the latest updates with others. He was extremely proud of his military service, his Oak Park roots and was a devout Bears and Sox fan. His understanding of the game and ability to remember players and details was renowned. He was on the move often with daily walks around the neighborhood, often with stops at the local hardware and grocery store just to chat or tell a joke or two. When not walking or visiting, he was a consummate reader of books and the Chicago Trib and hooked on doing the daily Chicago Tribune crossword puzzles – in ink no less!A dedicated and conscientious worker, John was employed with People’s Gas, UPS, Clark Equipment in Burbank and the Wauconda Community Unit School District.Visitation will be Sunday, June 7, 2026, 2:00 to 6:00 pm, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S Mill St, Naperville, IL 60540. Funeral Mass will be Monday, June 8, 2026, 11:00 am, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 36 N Ellsworth St, Naperville, IL 60540. He was born on December 7, 1956, in Chicago, IL.Beloved husband of the late Jeanette I. Donald E. Kittoe, 95, of Batavia, IL passed away on June 3, 2026. He was born on September 29, 1930, in Aurora, IL the son of Harold and Frieda (Hauser) Kittoe.Don was a curious and intelligent man whose love of learning stayed with him throughout his life. He had an active mind and was always thinking, creating, and finding new ways to improve the spaces around him. He enjoyed designing and reconfiguring rooms, taking pride in making things both beautiful and functional. A talented woodworker, Don had a gift for working with his hands and creating pieces that reflected his skill and craftsmanship. A devoted sports fan, he especially loved the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. After a dedicated career, he retired from All Steel in 1992.Don will be remembered for his sharp mind, kind heart and love for his family.He is survived by his children; Kathy (the late Craig) Schindlbeck, Michael (Donna Ramadan) Kittoe and craig Kittoe; grandchildren, Christopher (Danielle) Schindlbeck and Hannah, Abby and Malek Ramadan; great grandchildren, Sophia, Charlie and Olivia Schindlbeck and several nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Gloria Kittoe,  grandson, Matthew Schindlbeck and siblings, Edwin (Vicki) Kittoe, Charlotte (Roy) Little and Ken (Marie) Kittoe.Family will be receiving guests on Monday, June 8, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Dieterle Memorial Home. Elizabeth A. “Betty” Vancil, 72, of Oswego, IL passed away on June 1, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born on February 12, 1954, in Chicago, IL the daughter of William and Patricia (Winiarz) Lindley.Betty was a talented seamstress whose creativity and skill were evident in everything she made. She lovingly crafted her own clothing as well as beautiful pieces for family and friends. Known for her sharp mind, quick wit, and intelligence, Betty brought warmth, humor, and determination to everything she did.She loved thrifting and was the owner of Betty's Bargain Shop in Wilmington. Betty proudly served as a volunteer firefighter and paramedic in Wilmington, always ready to answer the call and assist those in need. She also worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), providing compassionate care and support to countless individuals throughout her career.Betty loved baking and bingo and in her younger years enjoyed fishing.Above all, Betty loved her family. They were the center of her life and her greatest source of joy. Huston Jr. “Whitey” Alexander, 79, of Aurora, IL passed away, Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Rush Copley Medical Center. He was born October 22, 1946 in Aurora, IL, the son of Huston M. and Bette (Wagner) Alexander.Whitey was a Veteran of US Army serving during Vietnam. During his time in the military, he married the love of his life, Lynn Thryselius on December 22, 1966 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Aurora. Whitey was employed at Siegles Lumber in St. Charles and after they closed, he worked for Chicago Flame Proof until retiring in 2018. Monday evenings were always date nights at the casino for he and Lynn. He was a die-hard sports fan.Whitey is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lynn; 2 sons, Brian Alexander and Tony Alexander; 5 grandchildren, Kylie (Marcus Harris) Alexander, Brandon (Vanessa Medina) Alexander, Levi (Gracie Keller) Alexander, Jordan Alexander and Jason Alexander; 7 great grandchildren, Olivia Benitez, Mateo Alexander, Jayce Alexander, Walker Alexander, Oaklynn Alexander and twins arriving in July; 1 sister, Rose Burgess of Aurora and several nieces and nephews to include Scott Thryselius.Family will be receiving guests on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Mother’s Day Remembrance Cards On Sale

"Honor your mother or a mother figure in your life with a Mother’s Day Remembrance Card. A card may be purchased for mothers who are living or deceased. For each card ordered, your mother will be included in prayer for 12 Masses throughout the year (one each month). Cards can be delivered directly to the mother through an e-card, sent in printable form to the purchaser, or picked up from the Commons Desk.  Cards picked up at the parish will be printed on cardstock.   Order online at www.smip.org/mothersday through May 6th or purchase at the Commons Desk through May 10th. We will then move into the Faith Sharing/Harvester Rooms to enjoy a luncheon. You must have prepaid for the catered lunch ahead of time. We will then proceed with the business meeting and close with a prayer.
