Margaret Y. Szczechula, age 56, passed away surrounded by the love and memories of those who knew her best on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.Survived by her children, Sarah (James) Burgert, and Timothy Szczechula; grandchildren, Lilah, Elaine, and Wyatt Burgert; mother and stepfather, Elizabeth (Ziggy) Sobolak; siblings, Jarek (Milka) Bojoko, Michael (Kristina) Sobolak; God mother, Anna Bukla. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends also survive.Preceded in death by her father, Richard Bojko; grandparents, Stanistawa (Joseph) Forman, Eliasz Bojko, and Stefan (Janina) FalasaMargaret was truly full of life, with the prettiest smile, an infectious laugh, and a personality that drew people to her everywhere she went. She was always ready for a good time, loved making memories with the people she cared about, and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Margaret loved spending time with her children and truly always wanted the very best for them. Her grandchildren were her entire world, and she loved them deeply, cherishing every moment spent together doing anything to make them laugh. She was also a devoted Chicago sports fan, especially when it came to the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bears. Whether cheering on her teams, spending time with loved ones, or reminiscing about cherished memories, Margaret lived with emotion, passion, and heart. She was a hardworking woman throughout her life, and in her later years found comfort in a quieter, more low-key lifestyle. Margaret adored her beloved dogs, Buddy and Milo, who meant so much to her and who preceded her in passing. She was stubborn, smart, unforgettable, and deeply loved. Margaret also shared a special bond with her late boyfriend, Damian, who passed away last year. He was not only her partner, but truly her best friend. Though her passing leaves an unimaginable emptiness, her laughter, spirit, and love will continue to live on through her family, friends, children, and especially her grandchildren. She will be missed beyond words and remembered always.Funeral services for Margaret will be held at Farkas Funeral Home, 3201 W. Jefferson St. Joliet, IL 60431 on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 7:00 PM. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until time of services. As it was Margaret’s request, cremation rites will be accorded following services.
