Elizabeth A. “Betty” Vancil, 72, of Oswego, IL passed away on June 1, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born on February 12, 1954, in Chicago, IL the daughter of William and Patricia (Winiarz) Lindley.Betty was a talented seamstress whose creativity and skill were evident in everything she made. She lovingly crafted her own clothing as well as beautiful pieces for family and friends. Known for her sharp mind, quick wit, and intelligence, Betty brought warmth, humor, and determination to everything she did.She loved thrifting and was the owner of Betty's Bargain Shop in Wilmington. Betty proudly served as a volunteer firefighter and paramedic in Wilmington, always ready to answer the call and assist those in need. She also worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), providing compassionate care and support to countless individuals throughout her career.Betty loved baking and bingo and in her younger years enjoyed fishing.Above all, Betty loved her family. They were the center of her life and her greatest source of joy. Her kindness, strength, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will be remembered by all who knew her.She is survived by her sons; Richard (Jaime) Welchko, David (Tiffany) Welchko and John Welchko; grandchildren, Christopher (Alex) Welchko, Brandon (Elizabeth) Welchko, Dana (David) Palan and Hannah, Paxton and Lily Welchko; siblings, Linda (James) Gallagher, William (Debbie) Lindley, Sharon (the late Ken) Johnson and James (Kathy) Lindley; brother-in-law Robert Gernenz and longtime friends Lance and Judy Newell. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews and her beloved dogs Shadow and Max.She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Vancil, sister, Patricia Gernenz and dogs Heidi and Inka.Family will be receiving guests on Sunday; June 7, 2026 from 1:00 PM until the time of service at 4:00 PM at Dieterle Memorial Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her honor to the animal rescue organization of your choice.
