A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service in New Orleans, effective immediately, for Lower St. Bernard Parish, including Yscloskey, Delacroix, and Shell Beach. This watch is in effect until 9:00 PM UTC today, October 7th.

Residents in these areas should complete preparations now before hazardous wind conditions begin. Significant wind damage is possible, with peak gusts up to 40 mph and a potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Prepare for potential damage to roofs, siding, and outbuildings, as well as downed trees and power outages.

Life-threatening storm surge of 3 to 5 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. If evacuation orders are issued for your area, leave immediately to ensure your safety. Significant impacts include inundation, weakened escape routes, and major marsh erosion. Assemble disaster supplies and know your evacuation route.

Localized flooding from 1-3 inches of rain is anticipated, with some areas receiving higher amounts. Heed any flood watches and warnings. A few tornadoes are also possible, so have a shelter plan ready. For more information, visit gohsep.la.gov/emergency.
