A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Sweetwater, Natrona, and Johnson Counties from noon today until Friday evening, with extreme fire conditions expected due to strong winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for Sweetwater, Natrona, and Johnson Counties, effective from noon today, October 8, until 7 PM MDT on Friday, October 9. The National Weather Service in Riverton warns of critical fire weather conditions.
Residents in affected areas, including Sweetwater County/Rock Springs BLM/Flaming Gorge NRA, Natrona County/Casper BLM, Johnson County/Casper BLM, and the Granite/Green/Ferris/Rattlesnake Mountains, should exercise extreme caution. Southwest winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Humidity levels could drop as low as 12 percent, with temperatures in the mid-70s.
These conditions create a high risk for erratic fire behavior. A Red Flag Warning indicates that a combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Avoid any activities that could spark a fire.
