Cape Coral Police Issue 110 Citations in Traffic Crackdown
Cape Coral Police stopped 118 drivers and issued 110 citations during a six-hour traffic enforcement operation on June 2, targeting speeding, aggressive driving, and distracted driving.
Officers conducted the citywide operation from 6 a.m. to noon, writing 81 speeding tickets and 10 aggressive driving citations. They also cited 11 drivers for distracted driving, including five for texting while driving, and nine for traffic control violations. Officers issued 16 warnings and wrote 102 moving violations and eight non-moving citations. Police made one arrest but no DUI arrests.
The Florida Department of Transportation funded the operation through a sub-grant. Cape Coral ranks ninth among 38 state agencies for traffic fatalities and serious injuries tied to speeding or aggressive driving, according to the Highway Safety Matrix.
The police department plans additional enforcement operations as part of its ongoing partnership with FDOT's Traffic Safety Office.
