Cape Coral Police: 67 Citations in Impaired Driving Operation
Cape Coral Police stopped 76 drivers during an eight-hour impaired driving enforcement operation May 28, issuing 67 citations and making five arrests.
Officers worked from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. and made one DUI arrest and four arrests on other charges. Speed violations accounted for 22 citations. Officers issued 50 moving violation citations, 22 non-moving citations, and 15 distracted driving citations. Police also issued 22 warnings.
The Florida Department of Transportation funded the operation through a sub-grant. Cape Coral ranks seventh among 38 state law enforcement agencies for impaired driving-related traffic fatalities and serious injuries on the Highway Safety Matrix.
The police department plans to conduct additional enforcement operations with FDOT funding throughout the year, targeting impaired driving, speeding, and distracted driving.
