Cape Coral Police: 5 Arrests in DUI Enforcement Sweep
Cape Coral police stopped 76 drivers during an eight-hour enforcement operation May 28, issuing 67 citations and making five arrests.
Officers conducted the operation from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., targeting impaired drivers. They arrested one driver on DUI charges and four others on additional offenses. Officers issued 22 speeding citations, 50 moving violations, 15 distracted driving citations and 22 non-moving violations. They also gave warnings to 22 drivers and issued five criminal citations.
The Florida Department of Transportation funded the operation through a sub-grant. Cape Coral ranks seventh among 38 agencies statewide in impaired driving-related traffic fatalities and serious injuries, according to the Highway Safety Matrix.
The Cape Coral Police Department partners with FDOT's Traffic Safety Office to conduct saturation patrols that concentrate multiple officers in specific areas during predetermined times. The department conducts periodic enforcement operations throughout the year, with additional campaigns during holiday periods.
