House Cleaner Arrested for Stealing from Cape Coral Clients

Cape Coral Police arrested Donald Lee Claybaugh, 59, this week on charges of grand theft after he stole cash and jewelry from clients' homes while working as a house cleaner.

Officers responded May 19 to a report of theft in Southeast Cape Coral. The victim told police Claybaugh took cash from a bedroom over nine months between May 2024 and February 2025. The victim marked currency and confronted Claybaugh about the missing money, confirming the theft.

Police say Claybaugh stole jewelry from another client and pawned the items. Claybaugh remains in custody at the Lee County Jail.

The Property Crimes Unit asks anyone who hired Claybaugh for cleaning services and suspects theft to file a report at 239-574-3223.

Police recommend homeowners check references, conduct background checks when possible, and secure valuables before allowing workers into their homes.
