Navy Veteran Lonnie Joe Veasley Sr. Dies at 74
Lonnie Joe Veasley Sr., a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer who served aboard the USS Brewton and USS Abraham Lincoln, died May 29 at age 74.
Born December 12, 1951, in Marshall, Texas, Veasley graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Fort Worth before enlisting in the Navy. He served out of Pearl Harbor and earned the Southwest Asia Service Medal and Kuwait Liberation Medal for his service during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in the Gulf War.
After retiring from the Navy, Veasey worked as a federal government employee before his second retirement.
He married Linda del Rosario Veasley on April 9, 1975, in the Philippines. The couple shared 51 years of marriage.
Veasley is survived by his wife Linda; children Delicia Fulton, Melony Rivera, and Lonnie J. Veasley Jr.; sister Velma White; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
