Rip Current Statement Issued for Coastal Glynn and Camden Counties
A Rip Current Statement, Coastal Flood Advisory, and High Surf Advisory are in effect for Coastal Glynn and Camden counties from October 6 to October 8, warning of dangerous rip currents, minor coastal flooding, and large waves.
Coastal residents and visitors in Glynn and Camden counties are advised of a Rip Current Statement, Coastal Flood Advisory, and High Surf Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL, effective immediately. These alerts are in place from October 6 at 2:57 AM EDT until October 8 at 5:00 AM EDT.
A High Rip Current Risk is in effect from 8 AM EDT this morning through late Wednesday night, with dangerous rip currents expected. Inexperienced swimmers should stay out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. If caught in a rip current, relax and float; do not swim against the current. Swim parallel to the shoreline if possible, or face the shore and call for help.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is active from 8 AM this morning to 5 AM EDT Thursday, with minor coastal flooding expected. This may lead to flooding of lots, parks, and roads, with isolated road closures possible. If travel is necessary, allow extra time and do not drive through flooded areas or around barricades. Take action to protect flood-prone property.
A High Surf Advisory is also in effect from 5 PM this afternoon to 5 AM EDT Thursday, predicting large breaking waves of 5 to 7 feet. These conditions create dangerous swimming and surfing hazards and localized beach erosion. Swim near a lifeguard when possible.
These conditions affect the Southeast Georgia Beaches. Residents are urged to follow all safety instructions from the NWS to ensure their safety and protect property.
