A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Southern Calhoun County in west central Iowa, effective immediately until 1:30 AM CDT today, October 9. The National Weather Service in Des Moines advises residents in the affected area to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection.
At 12:48 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was detected over Yetter, located 10 miles southwest of Rockwell City, moving east at 25 mph. This storm is capable of producing quarter-size hail, which is expected to cause damage to vehicles.
Locations impacted include Rockwell City, Lake City, Lohrville, Yetter, and Rockwell City Municipal Airport.
