CALHOUN COUNTY, IA – Residents in Calhoun County are advised to seek immediate shelter due to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Des Moines IA. The warning is in effect from October 9 at 12:53 AM CDT until October 9 at 1:30 AM CDT.
At 12:53 AM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was detected near Lake City, approximately 8 miles southwest of Rockwell City, moving east at 25 mph. The primary hazard associated with this storm is ping pong ball size hail, confirmed by radar. The NWS warns that people and animals outdoors could be injured, and damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles is expected.
Impacted locations include Rockwell City, Lake City, Lohrville, Yetter, and Rockwell City Municipal Airport.
For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building immediately. The warning is set to expire at 1:30 AM CDT.
