Residents of Imperial County are advised to monitor weather conditions closely as a Special Weather Statement has been issued for strong thunderstorms. The National Weather Service in Phoenix, AZ, issued the statement today, October 10, 2026, at 11:22 AM PDT, effective until 12:00 PM PDT.

Doppler radar is tracking an area of strong thunderstorms extending from Ocotillo to El Centro, moving north at 30 mph. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 40 mph.

Impacted areas include Imperial County Southwest, Salton Sea, Imperial County West, and the Imperial Valley. Specific communities that may be affected are Brawley, Imperial, Plaster City, Ocotillo, Westmorland, El Centro Naval Airfield, Mt. Signal, Dixieland, Seeley, and Coyote Wells.

Travelers on several highways should also be aware: CA Route 78 near mile marker 1, and between mile markers 10-13, and 2-6; CA Route 98 between mile markers 1-2, 23-26, and 3-5; CA Interstate 8 between mile markers 10-19; and CA Route 86 between mile markers 11-19, and near mile marker 21.

Gusty winds of this strength could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. The National Weather Service advises residents to be alert for threatening weather conditions during this period.
