Extreme Heat Warning for Imperial County: Act Now to Stay Safe
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Imperial County West and Imperial Valley from today, October 7, at 10 AM PST until Friday, October 9, at 8 PM PST, with temperatures expected to reach 104 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
Residents of Imperial County West and Imperial Valley are advised to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service Phoenix AZ. This warning is effective from 10 AM PST today, October 7th, until 8 PM PST Friday, October 9th.
Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with afternoon temperatures ranging from 104 to 110 degrees. This constitutes a major heat risk, where overexposure can lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and potentially life-threatening heat stroke.
To lessen the impact of the extreme heat, the National Weather Service advises rescheduling strenuous outdoor activities to early mornings or evenings. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Be aware of the signs and symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
For those who work outdoors, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. If someone is overcome by heat, move them to a cool, shaded location immediately. Heat stroke is a medical emergency; call 911 if suspected.
Public cooling shelters may be available in some areas. Residents are encouraged to consult county officials for more specific details regarding these resources.
