Afternoon temperatures are forecast to reach 104 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit, posing a major heat risk. Heat-related illnesses, including heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke, can develop rapidly.
Take immediate precautions. If you work or spend time outdoors, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments for outdoor workers. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool, shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency; call 911 immediately.
