An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for Imperial County West and the Imperial Valley, effective today, October 6, at 9:47 AM MST, until Friday, October 9, at 8:00 PM MST. The National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ reports dangerously hot conditions are possible, with afternoon temperatures ranging from 104 to 109 degrees Fahrenheit.
Residents are advised to take immediate precautions to lessen the impact of this major heat risk. Heat-related illnesses, including heat cramps and heat exhaustion, can develop quickly and may lead to heat stroke without intervention. Heat stroke is an emergency; call 911 if suspected.
The NWS recommends rescheduling strenuous outdoor activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. For those who work outdoors, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration suggests frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
