Miami-Dade County Internships – We Connect, We Thrive As Miami-Dade County strives to attract and retain the best and brightest in the community, our goal is to engage high school, college and graduate students as they navigate various career pathways and consider prospective employers. Our aim is to engage students early in their academic journey and inspire them to consider meaningful careers in public service within Miami-Dade County. Internship Program Through the Miami-Dade County Internship Program, we provide college and graduate students meaningful opportunities to learn about the County as a leading organization, gain valuable hands-on work experience and explore future careers in public service — all while gaining firsthand insight into the impact Miami-Dade County has on our residents and the community at large. Students will work alongside seasoned County employees at various levels within the organization to learn about departmental operations, foster intellectual curiosity and grow professionally. Paid opportunities are advertised on the County's Careers website along with other employment opportunities. You can explore and apply to current opportunities online. The application period for Summer 2026 internship opportunities is from April 13 - May 8. Summer internships will run for 13 weeks, from June 1 – August 21. Miami-Dade Departmental Internship Opportunities (PAID) - Summer 2026 Miami-Dade Departmental Internship Opportunities (UNPAID) - Summer 2026 Mayor's Office Internship Opportunities The Mayor’s Office Internship offers a high-impact, hands-on experience working alongside senior staff in Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s office. Interns gain exposure to the inner workings of local government by supporting teams that serve as liaisons between residents, County departments, and external agencies. Through research, writing, case coordination, and community engagement efforts, interns develop strong communication, analytical, and professional skills while contributing to meaningful public service initiatives. Opportunities to shadow staff and observe interactions with elected officials and intergovernmental partners further enhance the learning experience. This dynamic internship is ideal for students pursuing studies in Government, Law, Political Science, Business Administration or Public Administration who are passionate about serving the community. Mayor's Office Internship Opportunities (PAID) - Summer 2026 Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP) The Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP) provides high school students in grades 10 through 12 with a unique opportunity to gain valuable, real-world work experience through a paid, five-week internship during the summer, usually from July through August. SYIP interns are only allowed to work 150 hrs. over the 5-week internship period. Open to eligible Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) students that are rising 10th-12th graders (ages 15–18), this program helps young people build professional skills, explore career paths, and connect with mentors in their community. Offered in partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) and supported by dedicated partners such as The Children’s Trust, CareerSource South Florida, the Educational Federal Credit Union (EdFed), among others, SYIP is a powerful example of how public-private partnerships can positively impact youth development. We are proud to continue our commitment to empowering the next generation through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences each summer. For the past decade, Miami-Dade County has proudly supported SYIP, offering more than 50 internship opportunities across various departments each summer. Students interested in participating are encouraged to connect with their school counselor or designated “School Champion” to learn more about the application process. Volunteering Opportunities Looking to complete your field experience, community service requirements or internship hours? Volunteering within Miami-Dade County Departments provides high school and college students (ages 16 and up) meaningful experiential learning opportunities within various Miami-Dade County departments to gain real-world experience and explore careers in public service. Through structured assignments and professional mentorship, students gain practical skills and exposure to public sector career pathways. With mentorship and guided learning built in, it's a great way to grow your skills while earning academic credit. If you are interested in unpaid internship opportunities or would like to be considered for future internship opportunities, please join the waiting list. Fellowships Fellowships, designed to provide emerging professionals with meaningful, career-focused experience within public service fields. Through established Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with various colleges and universities, the County hosts fellows who gain valuable insight into local government operations. Participants work alongside experienced leaders on impactful projects across County departments, fostering professional growth, leadership development, and a clear pathway to a fulfilling career in public service.
