New Music Director at SCF Brings 30 Years Experience
Geoffrey Neuman, director and assistant professor of instrumental studies at State College of Florida, conducts the SCF Bradenton Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Band while teaching private bass lessons, music theory, fundamentals and appreciation.
Neuman joined SCF's Bradenton campus in August 2023 after spending more than 30 years in Las Vegas. He earned a bachelor's degree in music education, a master's degree in music education and a doctorate in orchestra conducting from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. During that time, he taught music courses and directed orchestras, marching bands and ensembles for middle school, high school and college students.
As a professional musician, Neuman performed on string bass, double bass and electric bass in musical theater, jazz, opera, rock and concert performances. He played alongside Andrea Bocelli, Jennifer Hudson and Elton John.
Neuman grew up in Illinois, moved to Southern California as a teenager and later relocated to Las Vegas after studying music at a community college.
He advises SCF's chess club despite not playing chess himself. "I did not want those students to lack the opportunity," he said.
"What I like most about my job is the faculty and students I work with every day," Neuman said. "I enjoy working with our students and having music be the center of what we do."
Outside teaching, Neuman attends concerts, rides his bike and spends time with family and friends.
