Human Remains Found Near Skyway Bridge in Manatee County

Deputies recovered partial human remains from the water near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026. The Florida Highway Patrol received a report at approximately 7:48 a.m. of a body washed ashore along the northbound lanes of Interstate 275 near the bridge.

Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputies and detectives responded and confirmed the remains belong to an adult woman. Investigators believe she may have been in the water for several days. The circumstances surrounding her death are under investigation.

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026, to help determine the cause and manner of death and to aid identification efforts.
