Eddy Quandt, Navy Vet & Bell Labs Supervisor, Dies at 98

Eddy Quandt, a U.S. Navy veteran and former supervisor at AT&T Bell Laboratories, died peacefully at his Sarasota home on Sunday, Sept. 13. He was 98.

Born July 20, 1928, in New Jersey, Quandt served four years in the Navy, including aboard the USS Maury. He met his wife, Ann, while attending the U.S. Naval Training Center in Great Lakes. He honorably discharged as a machinist mate second class.

Quandt spent 35 years with AT&T Bell Laboratories as an alarm and control board shift supervisor. He earned Rutgers certificates in air conditioning and refrigeration and as a shop steward, and he obtained a New Jersey engineers license.

He retired to Sarasota after his career in Illinois. His family remembers him as a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Quandt is survived by his daughters, Susie, Barbara and Judy; his grandchildren, Tamicka, Justin and Quentin; and his great-grandchildren, Adam, Samantha and Ella. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; his parents, Helmut and Anna; and his siblings Bill, Charlie, Steve, Margie, Harry and Richie.

Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory’s 26th Street Chapel in Bradenton is handling arrangements.

A service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72 (Clark Road). A celebration of life will follow from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at his home, 7124 Alderwood Drive, Sarasota.
