Ukraine Launches Extensive Aerial Attack on Russian Territory, Casualties Reported
Ukrainian forces initiated a significant aerial assault against Russian territory on Saturday. The attacks involved both long-range missiles and numerous drones, according to Russian authorities. Officials reported at least six deaths and multiple injuries stemming from the strikes.
Russian air defense systems reportedly intercepted over 50 drones across various regions. Authorities in Belgorod, near the Ukrainian border, stated that 12 drones and two missiles struck the area. Six individuals died in Belgorod, including a child. Ten others sustained injuries in the region, with four people in critical condition. Photographs from Belgorod showed damage to residential structures and vehicles.
Other targeted areas included Rostov, where officials reported 44 drones intercepted. Two drones were downed over Volgograd, and six over Kursk. Bryansk, adjacent to the Ukrainian border, also reported drone activity. Separately, Russian officials reported a Ukrainian missile strike on a port in the occupied city of Luhansk, Ukraine. A local hospital there received four injured individuals, according to Russian-appointed authorities.
Ukrainian officials did not immediately comment on the attacks. Ukraine has increased its strikes on Russian territory this year, directing operations toward Russian military industries and energy infrastructure.
