Escambia Clerk's Office Issues Key Notices on E-Filing, Holidays, and Public Hearings
Escambia County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller Alert Center Alerts are posted here when they are released to the public. Please check back often for new information. **NOTICE: ELECTRONIC FILING MANDATE FOR CIVIL CASES** Effective January 1, 2024, electronic filing will be mandatory for all attorneys and self-represented litigants in civil cases in Escambia County. This initiative aims to streamline the court process, improve efficiency, and enhance accessibility to court documents. All filings must be submitted through the Florida e-filing Portal. Key details: * **Who:** All attorneys and self-represented litigants in civil cases. * **What:** Mandatory electronic filing of all documents. * **When:** Effective January 1, 2024. * **Where:** Florida e-filing Portal (www.myflcourtaccess.com). * **Why:** To improve efficiency and accessibility. Resources and training materials will be available on the Clerk's website and through the Florida Courts website. Please familiarize yourselves with the new system prior to the effective date. **COURTHOUSE CLOSURE NOTICE** The Escambia County Courthouse will be closed on the following dates for federal holidays: * Monday, January 15, 2024 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day * Monday, February 19, 2024 - Presidents' Day * Monday, May 27, 2024 - Memorial Day Normal business operations will resume on the following business day. Please plan accordingly for any court dates or filings that may fall on these dates. **PUBLIC NOTICE: PROPOSED ORDINANCE AMENDMENT REGARDING PROPERTY MAINTENANCE** The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners is considering an amendment to the County Ordinance Chapter 11, Article II, relating to Property Maintenance and Nuisances. The proposed amendment aims to update existing regulations to better address public health and safety concerns related to overgrown vegetation, debris, and unsafe structures within unincorporated Escambia County. A public hearing will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 6:00 PM in the County Commission Chambers, located at 221 Palafox Place, Pensacola, FL 32502. All interested citizens are encouraged to attend and provide input. Copies of the proposed ordinance amendment are available for review at the Clerk's Office and on the Escambia County website. **NOTICE: NEW HOURS FOR THE COUNTY RECORDS OFFICE** Beginning Monday, February 5, 2024, the Escambia County Records Office will implement new operating hours. The office will now be open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding county-observed holidays. This adjustment is being made to better serve the public and streamline operations. **ALERT: SCAM WARNING - POTENTIAL MISUSE OF CLERK'S OFFICE NAME** Residents of Escambia County are advised to be cautious of unsolicited calls or communications claiming to be from the Clerk of Court's office demanding immediate payment for outstanding fines or warrants. The Clerk's Office does not solicit payments over the phone in this manner. If you receive such a call, do not provide any personal or financial information. Passport Office - Request an Appointment
Passports | North Miami, FL Applicants with urgent travel in less than five weeks or applicants at the five-week cutoff timeframe, must make an appointment at the Miami Passport Agency by calling the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778. Hurricane Debris
Do not mix yard waste (vegetation) with garbage or any other debris. See more details on next page. Trash and vegetative debris must be properly separated to guarantee removal. Use clear plastic bags for hurricane vegetative debris. Separate debris by category: household garbage, construction debris, vegetative debris, household hazardous waste, white goods (large electrical household appliances), electronics. Debris Removal occur in 3 phrases.Phase 1: Removal of vegetation (large trees, branches, leaves, logs and limbs). Phase 2: Removal of any construction and household debris. Phase 3: Removal of any remaining leaves and loose vegetation.
Electrical and Gas Safety
Electrical and Gas Safety Stay away from power lines and electrical wires. Please advise Florida Power and Light if there are any downed power lines in your area by calling at 1-800-4OUTAGE (1-800-468-8243) or 305-442-8770. If you suspect a gas leak, turn off the main gas valve, open all windows and leave the house immediately. Then call your gas company. Do not return to the house until you are told it is safe to do so.
Hurricane and Weather Information
Hurricane season is June 1st through November 30th. It is never too early to begin planning your family and your home for the storm season. We urge you to plan now and be prepared. The 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season, which runs from June 1 through November 30, is forecasted to be more active than usual. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) expects 13 to 19 named storms, with 6 to 10 becoming hurricanes and 3 to 5 of those possibly reaching major hurricane strength (Category 3 or higher). This increased activity is due in part to warmer Atlantic Ocean temperatures, continued ENSO neutral conditions and forecasts for weak wind shear and the potential for higher activity point for the Atlantic hurricanes. Hurricane Preparedness Tips For North Miami residents, this forecast means it's especially important to stay alert and prepared. While we can’t predict exactly where storms will go, our location in South Florida makes us highly vulnerable. Members of the public are encouraged to utilize resources like the National Hurricane Center for crucial updates designed to help communities like ours make well-informed decisions before, during and after storms. The City of North Miami urges all community members to begin preparing now. Review your family emergency plans, check your hurricane kits, and make sure you’re signed up for emergency alerts from the City. We are committed to keeping you informed and safe throughout the season. Working together, we can reduce risks and protect our community. Commonly Used Hurricane Terms Tropical Storm: Substantial winds of up to 73 mph and heavy rains, resulting in downed trees and power lines, heavy flooding and possible tornadoes. Hurricane Watch: Advance statement issued by the National Hurricane Center, which implies the possibility of dangerous conditions within 24 to 48 hours. Hurricane Warning: Advance statement issued by the National Hurricane Center that confirms hurricane conditions are considered imminent and may begin immediately or at least within the next 12 to 24 hours. Hurricane: A violent storm organizing over tropical waters, with winds near its center reaching 74 mph and higher. A storm may range from 50 to 1,000 miles in diameter. For hurricane categories a associated sustained wind speeds, visit the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale website. Storm Surge: A dome of seawater, often 50 miles wide that can sweep across the coastline inundating the land with water above normal high tide. Garbage Service
Garbage Service Contract garbage service is required by City of Mary Esther Ordinance, and is provided by Waste Management. ***Effective April 1, 2019, the City will no longer be billing for garbage pickup. Waste Management will be sending out quarterly invoices near the end of March for April, May, and June services. If you have any questions regarding your waste services or billing, please contact Waste Management at 1-800-284-2451.*** Household Waste Mondays: Place rolling cart with hinges towards your house. Recycling Recycling is picked up on Thursdays only. Yard Waste Tuesday: Bagged or Bundled in 4 feet lengths. Trunks no more than 25 pounds and no more than 4 inches in diameter. Bulk Items Friday: Appliances, Furniture, etc. Call for items with FREON (A/C and Refrigerator).
