Jimmie Lee Turnage, age 87, passed away on May 9, 2026, at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center. Born in Lebanon, Tennessee, on October 3, 1938, he was the son of the late Yurl Turnage and Ada May Belcher.A man of remarkable skill and dedication, Jimmie honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his initial tour, his specialized expertise led the U.S. Army to personally request his reenlistment. Serving in Korea as a plane mechanic, Jimmie became indispensable for his unique ability to repair older aircraft. His slight stature allowed him to navigate tight spaces that others could not reach, earning him a reputation for efficiency and technical mastery that saved countless hours of labor. After his military service, Jimmie brought his legendary work ethic to the Nissan plant, where he eventually retired from the maintenance crew. Known for his tireless nature, he frequently worked seven-day weeks and long shifts to provide for his family. It was during his time at Nissan that a friendship with a security guard led to an introduction to her mother, Geraldine, who would become his beloved wife.Jimmie and Geraldine married in July 2002 and built a wonderful life together in retirement. He was a dedicated member of the Middle Tennessee Gem and Mineral Society (the Tullahoma Senior Citizens Rock Club). His passion for geology was evident to all who visited his home, which was proudly adorned with an extensive collection of large boulders, rare gems, and geodes. In a final act of service, Jimmie was a proud organ donor through Tennessee Donor Services. His contribution will provide life-changing support to victims of burns and those suffering from skin disorders, continuing his legacy of helping others.Jimmie is survived by his devoted wife, Geraldine Trail Turnage; daughters, Karen (Chris) Brandenburg, Jamie Turnage, and Penny Green; grandchildren, Samantha (Robert) Dupree, Josh Taylor, August Turnage, and Jemma Green; great-grandchildren, Susan Hopkins, Xander Dupree, Jaxon Taylor, Tyler Smith, and Bryson Taylor; and great-great-grandchildren, Mason and Cooper Hopkins, along with a host of extended family members and friends.A memorial service will be announced at a later date to be held at Hillsboro Methodist Church.
