Hurricane Watch Issued for Walton County Ahead of Tropical Storm Isaias

A Hurricane Watch is now in effect for Central and North Walton Counties as Tropical Storm Isaias strengthens, with watches also issued for surrounding areas. Residents should prepare for heavy rain, storm surge, and dangerous winds, and stay informed via official NWS updates.

A Hurricane Watch has been issued for Central and North Walton Counties as Tropical Storm Isaias gains strength. Residents in these areas should finalize hurricane preparedness actions immediately.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Holmes, Inland Bay, Inland Gulf, and Washington Counties. Coastal Bay, Coastal Gulf, and South Walton are under a Storm Surge Watch and Hurricane Watch. Coastal Franklin, Coastal Jefferson, and Coastal Wakulla are under a Storm Surge Watch and Tropical Storm Watch. Coastal Dixie and Coastal Taylor are under a Storm Surge Watch.

As of 2 PM EDT today, October 7, Isaias is approximately 700 miles southwest of Panama City with 50 mph winds, moving East-northeast at 8 mph. NOAA Hurricane Hunters have confirmed strengthening. Conditions could begin to deteriorate as early as Friday morning.

Heavy rainfall of 3 to 6 inches, with isolated amounts up to 10 inches, is expected, potentially causing flash flooding. Storm surge of 5 to 7 feet above ground level is possible along the coastal Panhandle. Expect dangerous winds in the Florida Panhandle, with potential for downed trees and power outages.

Monitor official updates from the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, FL. The next local statement is expected around 5 PM EDT today. Follow all evacuation orders from local officials. Have an emergency plan and supplies kit ready. Inform friends and family of your whereabouts.
