Strong Storm Near De Funiak Springs: Seek Shelter Indoors
A strong thunderstorm near De Funiak Springs could bring wind gusts up to 40 mph; residents in North Walton, Central Walton, and Holmes counties should seek shelter indoors until 6:15 PM CDT.
A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee for parts of North Walton, Central Walton, and Holmes counties. Residents are advised to seek shelter indoors if outdoors due to a strong thunderstorm.
As of 5:30 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicates a strong thunderstorm located 7 miles east of De Funiak Springs, moving northwest at 20 mph. This storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 40 mph, which could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
Areas expected to be impacted include De Funiak Springs, Union, Liberty, Ponce De Leon, Douglass Crossroad, Sand Hill, Alpine Heights, De Funiak Spring Airport, Glendale, Eucheeanna, Pleasant Hill, Center Ridge, Knox Hill, Piney Grove, and Argyle.
The Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and is set to expire at 6:15 PM CDT today, September 30, 2026. The NWS advises anyone outdoors in these areas to consider seeking shelter inside a sturdy building until the storm passes.
