Extreme Heat Warning for Death Valley: 110°F Forecasted
An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for Death Valley National Park until Friday evening, with temperatures near 110°F; take immediate precautions against heat-related illnesses.
An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas for Death Valley National Park, effective immediately. The warning is in place from 3:40 AM PDT on Thursday, October 8, 2026, until 8:00 PM PDT on Friday, October 9, 2026.
Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with high temperatures near 110 degrees Fahrenheit and overnight lows between 80 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. This severe heat will impact elevations in Death Valley National Park below 2000 feet, posing a major heat risk to anyone without adequate cooling and hydration.
Heat-related illnesses significantly increase during extreme heat events. Residents and visitors are urged to take precautions. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, and stay out of the sun. Check on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures rapidly. When outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours.
If symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke occur, take immediate action. Move anyone overcome by heat to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is a medical emergency – call 911 immediately. For those working outdoors, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from the NWS for updates.
