Rip Current Risk, Coastal Flooding for Broward, Miami-Dade Coasts
A Rip Current Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory are in effect for Coastal Broward and Miami-Dade Counties until 2:00 PM EDT today, September 28, bringing dangerous rip currents and moderate coastal flooding.
Coastal residents and beachgoers in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties should exercise extreme caution today due to a Rip Current Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Miami FL.
These conditions are effective immediately, starting at 3:01 AM EDT, and are expected to continue until 2:00 PM EDT this afternoon, September 28. The affected areas include Coastal Broward County and Coastal Miami-Dade County.
The NWS reports a high risk of dangerous rip currents. Swimmers are advised to swim only near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float; do not swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
Moderate coastal flooding is also anticipated, which may lead to flooding of lots, parks, and roads. While only isolated road closures are expected, drivers should allow extra time for travel if necessary. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Property owners in flood-prone areas should take necessary actions to protect their property.
