Big Cedar Ridge Fossil Plant Area of Critical Environmental Concern, BLM Wyoming Designated an ACEC in 1997, the site is open to the public for visitation and casual collection of common Cretaceous plant fossils, as well as continued scientific research. The site contains over 175 different plant species preserved in a mudflow of volcanic ash that was deposited over 70 million years ago.
