Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Bibb County: Prepare for Severe Winds & Flooding
Bibb County, including Centreville, is under a Tropical Storm Watch with severe winds up to 55 mph and significant flooding expected from early Saturday morning; prepare property and seek safe shelter.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Bibb County, including Centreville, by the National Weather Service in Birmingham, AL, effective October 9 at 1:19 AM CDT. Residents should prepare for severe conditions, including tropical storm force winds and significant flooding, beginning early Saturday morning.
Peak winds are forecast to reach 30-40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. Hazardous wind conditions are expected from early Saturday morning through Saturday morning. Damage to porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Expect broken tree limbs, downed fences, and potential road impassability due to debris. Scattered power and communications outages are also possible. All remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before the wind becomes hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches, with locally higher amounts, are anticipated. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and floodwaters could enter structures. Roads may become hazardous due to inundation. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The tornado threat is currently low, with no tornadoes expected. However, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. Stay informed of the latest forecast changes.
