A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Bibb County, including Centreville, by the NWS, forecasting severe winds up to 60 mph and potential moderate flooding beginning early Saturday morning.
BIBB COUNTY, AL – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Bibb County, including Centreville, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham. This warning, issued today, October 9, at 10:17 AM CDT, indicates that tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours.
Residents should prepare for hazardous winds of equivalent tropical storm force. Peak winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are forecast from early Saturday morning until Saturday afternoon. Remaining efforts to protect property, such as securing loose objects like porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, should be completed as soon as possible. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Rivers and small streams may swell and overflow their banks. Flooding can make roads impassable, especially in low-lying areas. Driving conditions will become hazardous. The NWS advises considering protective actions if you are in a flood-vulnerable area.
The tornado threat for the area is currently assessed as unfavorable, with tornadoes not expected. However, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
