Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Bibb County: Prepare for Severe Winds & Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Bibb County, including Centreville, by the NWS; residents should prepare immediately for severe winds and potential moderate flooding beginning early Saturday morning.
BIBB COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Bibb County, including Centreville, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately. Residents should complete all preparations for severe winds and potential flooding as soon as possible.
Equivalent Tropical Storm force winds are forecast to begin early Saturday morning and continue through Saturday afternoon. Peak wind gusts of 30-40 mph, with isolated gusts up to 60 mph, are expected. This could lead to limited damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Some large tree limbs may break, and a few trees could snap or uproot. Scattered power and communications outages are possible, and some roads may become impassable due to debris.
In addition to the wind threat, a Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rainfall expected, with locally higher amounts. This could result in moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and floodwaters could enter some structures. Driving conditions will become hazardous, and some road and bridge closures are anticipated.
Residents are advised to move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. While tornadoes are not expected at this time, stay informed of the latest forecast.
