Bibb County residents, particularly in Centreville, must prepare for tropical storm conditions. A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective October 8 at 7:10 PM CDT. This watch will remain in effect until October 9 at 3:15 AM UTC.

Forecasters anticipate winds of 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph, potentially causing limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Large tree limbs may break, and scattered power and communication outages are possible. Move to safe shelter before hazardous winds begin.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This moderate flooding could lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, and small streams could overflow. Floodwaters may enter structures and cause hazardous driving conditions. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time, though gusty winds and thunderstorms may still occur. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
