FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Lisa McDonald (352) 735-7133 Statement from the City of Mount Dora Regarding Water Discoloration Issues Mount Dora, FL (June 5, 2024) – The City of Mount Dora is aware of recent reports regarding discolored water affecting some residents and businesses. We understand the concern this may cause, and we want to assure our community that we are actively addressing the issue. The discoloration is due to naturally occurring minerals, primarily iron and manganese, in the water supply. These minerals are not harmful to human health, but they can affect the aesthetic quality of the water. Changes in water flow and pressure can sometimes stir up these minerals, leading to temporary discoloration. The City’s Utilities Department is actively flushing hydrants in the affected areas to clear the lines and restore water clarity. This process involves opening fire hydrants to increase water flow and flush out any accumulated sediment. We are also conducting regular water quality testing to ensure the water meets all safety standards. Residents experiencing discolored water are advised to: Run cold water taps for several minutes until the water runs clear. Avoid using hot water until the cold water clears up. Refrain from doing laundry, as the discolored water may stain clothing. If the discoloration persists, please contact the City’s Utilities Department at (352) 735-7125. “We appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents as we work to resolve this issue,” said City Manager Robin Hayes. “Our top priority is to provide safe and reliable water service to our community, and we are committed to addressing any concerns promptly and effectively.” The City of Mount Dora is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of water quality and service. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates to the community as needed. ###
