Chickasaw County is currently accepting applications for a Medical Examiner Investigator (On-Call) position. This role is crucial for our community, ensuring that investigations into deaths are conducted thoroughly and with sensitivity. The Medical Examiner Investigator is responsible for responding to the scene of deaths within the county, conducting preliminary investigations, determining the cause and manner of death, and coordinating with law enforcement, medical professionals, and families. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Responding to scenes of death at any time of day or night, including weekends and holidays. - Identifying the deceased and notifying next of kin. - Conducting scene investigations, including photographing the scene, collecting evidence, and interviewing witnesses. - Performing autopsies or post-mortem examinations as required (may be conducted by contract pathologist). - Documenting all findings accurately and completely in official reports. - Coordinating with the County Attorney's office and law enforcement agencies. - Maintaining knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in forensic investigation. Qualifications: - Experience in law enforcement, emergency medical services, forensic science, or a related field is preferred. - Strong investigative, observational, and communication skills. - Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations. - Must possess a valid Iowa driver's license. - Must be able to pass a background check. This is an on-call position, meaning the individual will be contacted and compensated for cases as they arise. Flexibility and availability are essential.
